Importance of the Silva Sonnen Fight
Monday, August 09, 2010 5:31 PM

In reading all the posts on the web, the best one was where the author said, "Silva should thank Sonnen."  And boy do I agree.  Silva was coming off the most embarrassing and shameful win in his last fight.  His fancy show boating, his crazy taunting, and his crazy gassed out conditioning was just flat out humiliating.  Silva was once a hard-core MMA fan true hero and now he's this cocky, king of the world fighter with no fan base.

It's bad enough that he doesn't speak english, and with his nothing but lame ass peformance, his fan base has gone into negative numbers if that's possible.

Enter Sonnen, he starts trash talking even more than Silva and all of a sudden, Sonnen is the new bad guy and starts to get people coming back to Silva's fan base for this fight.  It's incredible.

Then this fight becomes the fight of the year.  Sonnen just moving Silva around like a rag doll.  Taking him down at will, and standing up with him dishing out his best shots, and Silva had no answer.

But somehow Silva pulls a shamrock out of his ass and applies an academic triangle choke that sends Sonnen into tap out land.  It was amazing.  It has to be one of Silva' greatest fights of his life and luckily for him, he came out on top.

Chuck vs Rich : Why This Fight Is Relevant
Thursday, June 10, 2010 11:13 PM

Chuck Liddell, love him or hate him, still carries lots of marketing power for the UFC.  When you think about the UFC, you think about that crazy whitebody with the mohawk knocking the crap out of everybody.  Yeah, Rampage knocked him out, yeah Keith Jardine edged out a win, yeah Rashad knocked him out, yeah Shogun knocked him out, but guess what.  All of those fights were really fun to watch.  I mean in entertainment value, Chuck's fights win or lose blow away all of the GSP fights including the last pathetic performance by Anderson Silva.

Rich Franklin, love him or hate him, brings the same amount of excitement in his fights win or lose.

You got two great fighters which carry great star power for the sport and you know for a fact the fight will end in headlining fashion.

Cheers to the UFC for putting this together.  Nobody wanted to see Liddell vs. Ortiz yet again.

Tito Just Wanted To Get On TV Again
Thursday, June 10, 2010 10:55 PM

As a smart washed up MMA fighter, Tito is still a marketer or at least a dated marketer.  I doubt his clothing line is doing well, and his image seems to get worse and worse as time progresses.  The sad performances in his last three fights were very disappointing then the hiatus and trash talking with Dana, to then grovel back to the UFC and get an amazing bone to coach TUF.  Yet it still went down hill with the alleged attack on Jenna and now his removal from TUF is icing on the cake.

Fighting for relevence in the MMA world is very tough when you bark and bitch and don't perform as a fighter nor as a decent human being.

I was a huge Tito Fan.  Heck Tito pimped out with Hurt Clothing in the early days of our company start.

Tito it's not to late to turn your image around!

Finally, the Real Champion is Crowned
Sunday, May 09, 2010 12:19 AM

Lyota Machida didn't learn his lesson the first fight.  He barely won and knew Shogun was out for blood in the rematch, but Lyota looked totally unprepared.  What I hate about Lyota is that he's not aggressive.  Kind of reminds me of Floyd Mayweather, although I give Mayweather some props on the last Mosley fight.  I'm so happy that Shogun really made a bold statement.  Lyota has never lost, and it was great to see such a Pride legendary champion be the first one to deliver it.  Rua delivered excitement and demonstrated that killer instinct.  This was surprisingly a great UFC.  What do you guys think?

BJ Penn Lazy?
Saturday, April 10, 2010 3:04 PM

Edgar won just by out hustling BJ. BJ had all the strikes but could not finish. Some can almost argue that Edgar out striked BJ.  BJ won the first three rounds which should have been enough.  But reports are coming in that BJ had a sinus infection and couldn't train the last weeks before the fight.

Hats off to Edgar for going for it and figuring out a way to win at all costs. I'm sure Edgar won't keep the belt long but good for him for reaching his long time dream. What are your thoughts?

Silva vs GSP
Saturday, April 10, 2010 2:55 PM

This last UFC could have been a great card but I found it boring. Anderson Silva is too busy show boating and finishing the fight. The good news is that this will setup the fight for GSP. I wonder if Anderson will trash talk in the ring with GSP. You know that GSP is a little scared. GSP doesn't have the same mental game as Silva. But I am going cheer for Canadian cuz Anderson is reminding me of Floyd Mayweather of MMA. No killer instinct. No respect for the fans. Demian's heart is more inspiring than Silva. Silva tired out and has no heart of a warrior. Gotta love the ref warning Silva about running away. Go GSP!!!

Invincible UFC 112: Decent Card?
Monday, April 05, 2010 10:35 AM

Silva, Penn, Hughes, and Gracie?  Pretty good names on this card.  I stand corrected from my earlier post. I'd pay $50 to watch this PPV and I'm going to.  This UFC can be a turning point for both Penn and Silva.  If Penn is successful again, he will have to move up in weight to see more challenges.  Silva faces the same turning point.  If he again is successful, who else is there to fight?  This will be a great UFC match.  More thoughts coming later.  What do you guys think?

George St. Pierre: Re-Hash of Matt Hughes?
Monday, April 05, 2010 10:28 AM

If you saw that last GSP fight with Hardy, it was what I say "really boring."  Then I started watching UFC Unleashed and it was the best of Matt Hughes.  It was all wrestling and ground game similar to what GSP is doing these days.  I mean seriously, a decision over Hardy?  You can tell GSP was kinda scared and played it safe.  I mean he really played it safe with take downs and just muscle-ing Hardy around.  Hardly anything spectacular of a grand champion like Anderson Silva or even BJ Penn (in the right weight class, of course).

If GSP was such a great champion, he'd fight Anderson Silva.  I mean this would be the Pacquiao Mayweather of the UFC.  And guess what? Dana White owns both of these fighters.  This would be bigger than Liddell and Ortiz back in the day for several reasons.  MMA has gone so mainstream that Silva and GSP are more known now than ever.  This would be very healthy for the sport, at least in my opinion.  The new talent can't carry the marketing power like these guys can and paying $50 for a PPV is starting to get tight when you're watching mediocre fights with no namers.   I mean, these no namers are getting like $1500 to $40,000 per fight which is hardly enough to cover their medical bills.

We need an MMA resurrection of a great fight and George St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva is that fight.

Fedor To Join The UFC?
Monday, January 04, 2010 11:51 PM

It was recently reported that Dana White claimed the biggest heavy weight fighter was soon to come to the biggest fight promotion in MMA history.  Several reporters went on a manhunt to check the validity of this claim including calling every single person in M-1 Global.  For those who don't know, Fedor is a co-owner of M-1 Global and regularly do partnerships with Strikeforce out of San Jose and with CBS.

Here's the official quote:

"Today I heard the rumors of me allegedly stating on my twitter account that we are negotiating with the UFC. I want to state that there are no talks with the UFC whatsoever. Our partner in the USA is STRIKEFORCE, we are happy to cooperate with STRIKEFORCE. Fedor (Emelianenko) and Gegard (Mousasi) fight there and they are quite happy with the conditions and how they are treated with respect there. Finally, I don’t have any account on Twitter. The account that ignited the rumors is false. Our attorneys are already aware of the situation and shortly this fake account will be deleted."
