Fedor To Join The UFC?
Monday, January 04, 2010 11:51 PM

It was recently reported that Dana White claimed the biggest heavy weight fighter was soon to come to the biggest fight promotion in MMA history.  Several reporters went on a manhunt to check the validity of this claim including calling every single person in M-1 Global.  For those who don't know, Fedor is a co-owner of M-1 Global and regularly do partnerships with Strikeforce out of San Jose and with CBS.

Here's the official quote:

"Today I heard the rumors of me allegedly stating on my twitter account that we are negotiating with the UFC. I want to state that there are no talks with the UFC whatsoever. Our partner in the USA is STRIKEFORCE, we are happy to cooperate with STRIKEFORCE. Fedor (Emelianenko) and Gegard (Mousasi) fight there and they are quite happy with the conditions and how they are treated with respect there. Finally, I don’t have any account on Twitter. The account that ignited the rumors is false. Our attorneys are already aware of the situation and shortly this fake account will be deleted."

Happy New Year MMA Fashionistas! UFC 108!
Friday, January 01, 2010 10:28 PM

Looking back at 2009, we've seen the MMA culture transform to higher levels and lower levels.  As the local MMA fight community struggle to organize MMA events, find sponsorships, find trainers, and find students, the same attitude still is clear:  Never Give Up.  As our sport rides the back of the UFC which has very strategic path in 2010, we'll be seeing the rise of MMA into an internationally promoted sport.  We're definitely not here yet, but as the UFC brings MMA to all different states in North America and in Europe and the Pacific Asian markets, we'll definitely bring that dream closer.

So why do we care at the local level on how MMA does in 2010 on the national and international model? It's all about keeping the fight culture alive.  Here at Hurt Clothing, the business of MMA is pretty simple.  Fighters and Fight Fans all want the same thing:  To be significant, to be relevant, to make sure their life was not wasted.  Hurt Clothing represents what's real, it's the most significant emotion that is given and received.  If you ain't Hurt, your nobody.  Everyone is defined by how much pain they can give or receive.

So here's a big shout out to all the fighters and fans that we're not only surviving, but we're making progress in making MMA an beloved global fight platform that will bring entertainment for years to come.

Cung Le Comeback?
Friday, December 11, 2009 12:19 PM

MMA Superstar Cung Le chose to not defend his Title to pursue a movie career. After an impressive stand up game against the legendary Frank Shamrock, Cung Le defeated Frank Shamrock by breaking his arm.  Some say that fight was very controversial due to Frank's strategy to try to strike with the best striker in the business.  Some thought Frank purposely stood up with Cung Le to prove that he can strike and if he lost, he would get a re-match fairly easily.  If that's true, the strategy didn't really work as Frank went on to lose to Nick Diaz and has yet to put another W in his record.  Cung Le is making is comeback to Strikeforce facing Scott Smith.  Scott Smith won't have a chance if he decides to stand with Cung Le.  Everybody knows that Cung Le's ground game has yet to be tested and we all though Frank was smart enough and talented enough to take him there, but he didn't.  Blame it on getting old, or ego, it doesn't matter.  If you want to beat Cung Le, you do it on the ground, not standing up.   Catch the comeback on December 19 on Strikeforce.  Cung Le is the closest thing to a modern day Bruce Lee... Lyota Machida can also be considered a modern day Bruce Lee... but Cung Le is way more exciting.

Where To Hold The Mayweather Pacquiao Super Fight
Wednesday, December 09, 2009 11:04 PM

Las Vegas, New Orleans, or Dallas?  The latest news says that Dallas is out and the Staples Center in Los Angeles is in.  Las Vegas simply cannot hold the amount of people that will want to witness this collision live. Hurt Clothing hooked up with Manny Pacquiao when he came to Chicago to promote the Diaz-Pacquiao Fight. Until now, the Mayweather Dela Hoya Fight had yielded the highest PPV at 2.4 MM.  The Marquez Mayweather Fight yielded around 1.2 MM and the Pacquiao Cotto fight was almost the same.  The Boxing community or in general the Fight Community is hailing this bout as Good against Bad in the grand world stage of the greatest boxing matches ever in history.  The speculation is that 3MM PPV buys will be had.  Let's do some math:  3MM x $50 = $150MM in just PPV buys.  Everyone thought the deal was going to be to hard to put together, but in rapid fashion they've agreed to a 50/50 split.  How hard was that?  Not hard at all because both fighters are going to be looking at one of the greatest paydays of all time surpassing what was called the Dela Hoya effect. Hurt Clothing will be tracking the progress of this super fight and are thinking of making a stand up hurt shirt or a striker themed shirt.  What do you guys think?

Christian Uflacker Victorious at Strikeforce
Wednesday, December 09, 2009 9:17 PM

View More Pictures of the Fight Courtesy of Combat Lifestyle and Thrumyeye

Congratulations to our guy, Christian Uflacker for his victory against Jonatas Novaes.  Christian won a hard fought decision 29-26 and 30-25 (twice) all for Christian Uflacker.  We are proud of you.

Here is the play-by-play, courtesy of Sherdog.

Round 1
This battle of Chicago lightweights is overseen by referee Mike Reed. Uflacker starts the round shooting in and securing a double leg. He passes the BJJ black belt’s guard and starts to work from half. Uflacker is attempting to work by landing rabbit punches to the body, but not much is happening. Novaes lands punches to the top of his opponent’s head, but nothing substantial. Novaes gives up his back and stands, but Uflacker finds himself on his back. Uflacker looks for a leg and uses it to get back on top in the Brazilian’s half guard. The referee stands the two lightweights up and they engage again. Novaes grazes his opponent with a head kick but is taken down. Uflacker finishes the round on top. 10-9 Uflacker.

Uflacker vs. Novaes.Round 2
Uflacker shoots at the beginning of the second frame but is stuffed. The fighters clinch against the cage and Novaes finds himself on top in guard. Uflacker kicks his opponent away, but Novaes dives back into the guard. Uflacker is working a rubber guard, which is neutralizing his opponent. The referee stands them up. Uflacker wastes little time in securing a double-leg takedown. Uflacker moves to half guard and works some punches to the body. Uflacker continues to work from his opponent’s guard, but isn’t landing anything hard. Novaes attempts a sweep, but his Uflacker doesn’t give in. The round expires with Uflacker working from half. 10-9 Uflacker.

Round 3
Uflacker shoots in and secures another takedown after some failed kick attempts from Novaes. Novaes stands and soccer kicks the grounded Uflacker in the head and he is in immense pain. The doctor comes in to look at the downed fighter. Uflacker gets to his feet and is helped up by a doctor. It doesn’t appear he is interested in continuing. He is becoming more cognizant of what is going on and the doctor leaves the cage. It appears that he is interested in continuing. The referee talked to the judges and deducts two points. The fight continues and Uflacker gets back to his bread and butter, takedowns. Novaes senses the urgency in the later going and is working for anything off of his back, but nothing is there. The referee stands the fighters back up and it isn’t long before Uflacker secures another takedown and lands in the Brazilian’s guard. Uflacker continues to work with punches to the body as the round and fight comes to an end. 10-7 Christian Uflacker.

The judges score it 29-26 and 30-25 (twice) all for Christian Uflacker, who takes the unanimous decision.

Thoughts on Tito's Loss.
Monday, December 07, 2009 6:29 PM

After seeing Forrest lose to Anderson Silva in a very lame fashion, why would Forrest come back and fight again.  But he did....and came back to fight a re-match with Tito Ortiz who has been absent from the sport long enough that he should have retired.  Again, why would Tito come back and fight again?  So for the UFC headliner we have two fighters who have no more sizzle to their game, I could not have imagined anything exciting to come out of the fight, and unfortunately I was right.  For those who paid to watch this fight, I hope you felt you got your money's worth.  Hopefully, you had interest in the undercard.

December 12th's UFC card with Penn vs Sanchez looks to be interesting.  At least you know that both guys come to bang and to throw down, unlike the predictable Griffin vs. Ortiz combo.

Thanks for all the fans for sending in pictures of yourselves in Hurt Clothing.  Please keep on sending them as we will begin to post fan pictures on our website daily.  If your featured on the website, you will be eligible to win the whole collection for free.

Happy Turkey Day!

Fedor sues Affliction: Seriously?
Sunday, December 06, 2009 2:33 PM

Deep sixing the Affliction MMA promotion was inevitable but Fedor wanted his before the failin promotion hit rock bottom.  After Barnett tested positive for steroids, Affliction MMA was cancelled after not being able to identify a worthy opponent for Fedor.  All Fedor cares about is the money, not the opponent so that's why he's suing the t-shirt giant of wings and skulls for damages.

For me, this tarnishes the nice guy honorable image that Fedor has. He's just as greedy for money like the rest of us.

Press release:
Affliction Trilogy Cancelled
Seal Beach, California (July 24, 2009) – The highly anticipated fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett at the Affliction Trilogy MMA show has been cancelled. The mega fight was scheduled to take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim on August 1st.  The unforeseen license denial of Josh Barnett gave Affliction limited time to find a replacement and adequately promote the new main event.
“Finding an opponent for the number one ranked MMA heavy weight champion in such a short period of time was a huge endeavor and I’m thrilled at the amount of fighters willing to take on this challenge,” said Tom Atencio, vice president of Affliction Entertainment. “But in the end, we just didn’t have enough time to promote a new fight to our standards.”
Affliction is deeply disappointed that the under card is also cancelled through no fault of its own. Affliction stands behind the company’s brands and delivers premium products to the most passionate and loyal customers. Affliction’s first priority is to ensure that all future events live up to the company’s high standards.
Ticket holders for the canceled event should contact Ticketmaster or ticketmaster.com for a refund.
